Research Internship/ Paid Work/ Peer Support

We are looking for student interns to take on consultancy work at The Research Navigator. This includes data analysis and scientific writing projects, data collection, development of research resources and online management.

 

Learn about research by working on live projects and earn some money,; Online work with flexible hours (few hours every week) [Up to Rs 500 per hour]

DESCRIPTION

We are recruiting students (pursuing Masters/PhD or recently completed Masters) with diverse set of research, academic and technology skills to take over some of the consultancy work at The Research Navigator. The description of the six open roles are given at the end of the page

 

We receive requests for consultation and support for three major areas of academic research projects; 1. Quantitative data analysis and, 2. Scientific writing (editing, proofreading, formatting), 3. Qualitative data analysis & representation. We are looking for individuals with proficiency (or aptitude) in any of the three, and are willing to learn new things. With expert supervision along the way, you can broaden your research/writing skills by taking on live projects (online work, flexible hours) and also earn a good side income. Some projects might offer authorship claim as well. 

Secondly, we are also looking for student interns to develop research resources on this website (at https://www.theresearchnavigator.com/learning-resources ), and take responsibility of online handles and advertising/promotion of The Research Navigator. This requires technical skills and aptitude/openness towards learning new software, platforms, etc. The reimbursement prospects for this work is less than the first one; however, for the right skills set, we are willing to pay to work with you. You will get direct credits for all content worked with. 

RULES FOR ROLES 1,2 & 3

  • Details of live or active projects are given on the 'Projects Home' page. For each project, crucial details of type of work, reimbursement, deadline, etc. will be given alongside each entry.

  • Each project entry on the Project Home page links to further details of the assignment. These are password protected pages, so you will need permission from the admin to access the assignment details. It is password protected because it is confidential information, which you must ensure to keep private yourself.

  • All of the project pages are not optimized for Mobile view. Hence, open these pages only on your laptops or PCs. Since you'll have to open multiple links, pdfs, docs for the projects; this work is not suitable for phone devices. 

  • The project assignments are on a first come, first serve basis. The details of new projects will be shared with all registered experts along with password. Whoever calls dibs to the assignment gets it (confirms through mail).

  • This is a Learning + Earning type of setup (50%-50%). The learning part is equally important and encouraged. If you have certain aptitudes, you can hone your skills through the projects.

  • All work and correspondence is completely online. You will never have to physically show up anywhere for the above mentioned work.

  • These roles involve direct consultation with clients. TRN charges roughly Rs. 300 to Rs. 800 per hour/page for consultation to the clients. If you take up projects, you can claim up to 90% of the consultation amount. Only 10% of total consultation fee taken by TRN as processing fee, 20% if significant supervision is also required to complete project tasks (i.e. learning how to do it while doing it).

  • All works are subject to quality evaluation. This involves review by the admin, the client, and the official evaluation mechanisms for each project. Most writing works will involve strict criteria for plagiarism and checks on software. 

  • If your performance on the projects is exceptional, you will get priority for future projects in your preferred roles. If your performance is below par, you will get phased out and might not get new projects. 

  • There is no formal registration or obligations in terms of taking up these works or being associated with TRN. You send a mail to theresearchnavigator@gmail.com with your profile to register as an expert in your preferred roles. You can only take up projects as per your convenience, topics, payout, etc.

GENERAL RULES

  • TRN is not a registered business; this can be best described as tutoring or peer support. Hence, this might not fulfill criteria for internships as part of your college courses.

  • Role 4 is strictly related to field work to collect data for which remuneration is directly based on number of survey forms filled. There is no scope for creative or original output like the other roles; however, this one demands a different set of skills.

  • Roles 5 and 6 are related to long term vision of TRN. We want individuals who are willing to share the same vision of TRN and stick around for a while. 

  • For any role you choose, you have the option of putting up your 'Expert profile' on this website. It can be a useful avenue to put up details of your skills as TRN has decent Google search rankings. Check out the admin's profile to get an idea about your own details to put up. All registered experts will be given the title of 'Associate Consultant'​

1. Quantitative Data Analysis & Statistics

Work on real and live academic research projects and provide technical support in coding data, computing data sets, statistical tests on software, reporting of results in appropriate formats, and generation of tables and figures.

Skill areas: Inferential & descriptive statistics, Statistical software (SPSS, Jamovi, MS Excel), MS Word formatting skills

Nature of work: Freelance (Few hours a week or as per new projects); Project based, Direct consultation fees (up to Rs. 500 per hour).

2. Scientific Writing

Support ongoing research writing projects (dissertations, reports, manuscripts) by editing and proofreading for basic English language usage and grammar; and technical requirements of scientific/research writing (APA/MLA formatting, References & Bibliography).

Skill areas: MS Word formatting skills, Proficiency on range of formatting/reference styles, Prolific English language usage

Nature of work: Freelance (Few hours a week or as per new projects); Project based, Direct consultation fees (up to Rs. 500 per hour/page); scope for authorship

3. Qualitative Research

At TRN, we have focused exclusively on Quantitative research and data analysis. However, we get requests for help with qualitative research as well. We want experienced students who have conducted qualitative research before; and can help with all aspects of a qualitative research project

Skill areas: Knowledge of Qualitative research designs and methods of data collection and analysis, Specific skills with Thematic Analysis (TA), Know how on compiling 'Results' for qualitative data.

Nature of work: Freelance (Few hours a week or as per new projects); Project based, Direct consultation fees (up to Rs. 500 per hour/page); scope for authorship

4. Data Collection Mercenary 

Do you have a lot of friends or know lots of people? Get paid for your network skills. Get research questionnaires/ surveys filled out by friends and peers, and get at least Rs. 50 per filled survey.

Skill areas: Social network skills, Knows a lot of people already; can easily build rapport, be persuasive and annoy people till they fill the damn survey, Online social media skills

Nature of work: Freelance based; At least Rs.50-100 per survey filled (online or offline); get paid as soon as responses are verified

5. Research content Development

We have started a 'Learning Resources' page for everything related to research at https://www.theresearchnavigator.com/learning-resources. We are looking for contributions in terms of searching and identifying more relevant resources to host, and also coming up with original content for the website.

Skill areas: Expertise at navigating the internet, Knowledge about Databases & search engines, Skills in building websites, hosting online content

Nature of work: Negotiation based; looking for long term involvement from students to grow TRN as their own; Some stipend possible, credits on the website

6. Digital Promotion & Marketing

TRN is still in its infancy. We have our handle on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter; however, we have not started engaging with the online community, and have not put out ads or promotions yet. We want to start that soon and are looking for individuals who can take care of this aspect. 

Skill areas: SEO skills, Expertise at navigating the internet, Experience in online paid ads, Skills in building websites, hosting online content

Nature of work: Negotiation based; looking for long term involvement from students to grow TRN as their own; Cuts on new clients, credits on the website.
